With the consistent increase in the number of subscribers
for its quality Internet Services the size and complexity
of its network environment was growing dramatically.
Hence it became critical for GIPL to introduce a Network
Management solution, which included much more than just
network management. Some of the concerns to which GIPL
needed immediate solution was:

GIPL chose Tivoli software solutions from Ontrack for
its large-scale Network management deployment. Tivoli
software was selected because it offered flexibility
and scalability in complex system environments subject
to frequent changes “Ontrack Solutions was
a logical choice for us. Given their expertise on Tivoli
software, we were pretty confident that we would get
more that we want” says Mr Sandip Shah, CTO at
GIPL. After understanding the environment and problems
that needed solutions, Tivoli Netview was selected as
a solution along with Tivoli Enterprise Console for
Event consolidation and filtering. Tivoli Framework
was used to integrate the two. After selecting Tivoli
Enterprise management solutions, Ontrack started the
full-fledged implementation of the selected modules.
Today, Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) provides the
Internet Service Provider with sophisticated, automated
problem diagnosis and resolution to improve system performance
and reduce support costs. The Web console enhances visualization
while providing remote access to events and console
operations.
IBM TEC acts as an event management system that goes
beyond simple filtering and provides root cause analysis
through event correlation. IBM TEC has been configured
to accept events not only from Tivoli Netview but also
from non-Tivoli products/systems enabling comprehensive
management. Shah adds saying, “We have been
able to reduce lot of our support costs and also improve
our service response times. Thanks to Tivoli Enterprise
Console.”
Tivoli Netview provides an efficient Network management
tool for managing the complex and hybrid Wide Area Network
The GIPL network spans across the state of Gujarat,
NDIA, providing Internet access to its subscribed base
and also with value added and customized services. With
Tivoli Netview, it is now easier to find out which part
of the network needs attention before customers can
start complaining.
IBM Tivoli Netview along with Tivoli Enterprise Console
has addressed the need for a comprehensive Network Management
system, which not only monitors the network, but also
consolidates events and correlates them to perform root
cause analysis to quickly identify the real cause of
the problem situation.
Deployment of Tivoli software has helped GIPL immensely
in addressing their immediate and long-term concerns.

using one single Interface. Information regarding the
network infrastructure is available in a database and
results in better utilization of available resources
